Guest post: I'm Eliminating Chocolate, Dairy and MSG to Address Pain and Immobility
I am honored to have my very first guest post be from my Hakomi teacher Gregory Gaiser. Gregory taught me about the "experimental attitude" of Hakomi therapy over the course of a 2-year training that truly changed me. He is an abundantly creative person who brought us living floral sculptures every class from an ancient Japanese art form called ikebana. As a somatic practitioner, he knows the importance of bringing a loving, experimental attitude towards ones own body. He inspires me to continue in the art of embodied experiments all my life long! -Amber

What was your hypothesis?
A chiropractor, with whom I had excellent results for low back pain and immobility, said I tested allergic to chocolate, dairy, and MSG. Since many of my physical challenges seem to stem from inflammation, this seemed like a good premise to explore.
What did your experiment entail?
Just eliminating the aforementioned foods. I also have cut way back on sugar.
What was it like?
Chocolate was surprisingly easy to give up. Also surprisingly to me, cheese was harder. And half and half.
MSG is tricky because it can be in so many things. Manufacturers of MSG sell it to other food companies who then can legally list it as seasoning in their products. It is in many things like salad dressing, soup broths, etc.
What were your results?
Emotionally it has been a relief to have something to try suggested by someone I trust. I have tried many approaches to better body functioning over the years, and it can be quite discouraging. I found I do have the will power if I have the information of how to proceed.
Physically, I am still waiting to assess the results. Too soon to tell. However, I did notice twice that the day after I ate some dairy and some sugary things, I had more joint pain/arthritis.
Have you tried any experiments for inflammation? How did it go for you?
If you have experiments you've undertaken in your health or other realms, submit them to inspire us all!
To your health,
